The Coach Steve Clark PhD Show

with Matt Anger, UW Coach

Hello everyone, welcome to The Coach Steve Clark PhD Show where the aim is to encourage, inspire and equip coaches, players and parents who in turn inspire and equip others to promote tennis, foster sportsmanship, and develop greater players and people. So thanks for joining me and I hope you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the conversation.  I’d like to thank Wayne Bryan for the intro and Mike ’n Bob Bryan for the music. A special thanks to all they do for tennis through the Bryan Bro foundation and more.

The great conversations and insights keep coming and I have to admit my guests are creme de la creme and I love visiting with my friends and colleagues.  Today I am pumped to chat with a friend who is not only not only one of the most respected collegiate coaches, players but also one of the few college coaches that I would trust to coach my kids.  Matt Anger of UW. Today we are going to connect on all phases as do all my shows but Matt Brings a unique “been there, done that, and keep on learning attitude” all with a sense of professionalism and humility and respect for others.  I am sure many coaches and his former players look to Matt as a roll model.

Matt won Jr. Wimbledon (1981) and was ranked #2 in the world junior rankings, was a 3-time All-American at USC and inducted into the ITA Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame in 2014. Nominated as most improved player on the ATP tour and in 1986 achieved an ATP singles ranking of #23 in the world and reached the round of 16 at both Wimbledon and the US Open.  Examples of notable wins for Matt are Scott Davis, Harold Solomon, Jimmy Arias, Brad Gilbert, Johan Kriek, Kevin Curren, Henri Leconte, and Miloslav Mecir. He just completed his 26th year as the head coach at Washington and got his 400th win just before all he seasons were shut down but he NCAA.  His teams have have qualified for the NCAA tournament 21 times and had a streak of 19 in a row.
