Find these links to resources  and organizations dealing predominately with issues of intersection of faith and sport.  Some areas touching on mentoring, fathering, parenting, are listed as well given our youth are significantly influenced by their parents in their faith and sport is often a means of relationship building and community.  While some links are not directly related to sports per se, the impact and relationship to parenting, mentoring, and coaching is clear (Thank you for your patience while I am further developing this page).

This amazing prison program has revolutionized and radically changed even the most violent of prisons motivating incarcerated fathers to be model men and fathers as they desire to bring their children close and build relationship.

 

 

Coaches Of INfluence (or COIN)

Begun in 1997 by Nelson Cook to encourage coaches of all levels them in their faith helping them maximize their influence in their personal, family and professional lives by working through and with local churches. For many years, Nelson directed the Southern California FCA and ran camps for needy youth in addition to the working with youth on their teams and the coaches they support.  Both with the FCA and now with COIN, Nelson has done an amazing job supporting leaders of youth.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is an international non-profit Christian sports ministry based in Kansas City, Missouri. FCA was founded in 1954.  It serves on most high school and college campuses to support and encourage young men and women in the spiritual life in the context of sports and competition.

Sport enriches life. The urge to play sport is a divine gift, a vibrant, God-honoring pursuit in the lives of Christians regardless of race, gender, physical and intellectual ability, or sexuality. But like all such gifts, without purposeful stewardship it can be separated from its divine intent. This call to stewardship is essential in a society where sport is often distorted by moral relativism and an unhealthy fixation on winning.

Center for the Study of Sport and Religion at the University of Tennessee Knoxville

The Center for the Study of Sport and Religion (a) conducts contextualized research (the convergence of sport, religion, and spirituality), (b) disseminates findings from significant studies in the area of sport and religion, (c) engages in collaborative programming (e.g., speakers, webinars, mini-conferences) with our internal and external partners where appropriate.
