The Coach Steve Clark PhD Show

with ATP Tour Coach Brad Stine

Hello everyone, welcome to The Coach Steve Clark PhD Show where the aim is to encourage, inspire and equip coaches, players and parents who in turn inspire and equip others to promote tennis, foster sportsmanship, and develop greater players and people. So thanks for joining me and I hope you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the conversation.  I’d like to thank Wayne Bryan for the intro and Mike ’n Bob Bryan for the music. A special thanks to all they do for tennis through the Bryan Bro foundation and more.

I tell my players that the tennis world is very small and your friends are for a lifetime.  That is one reason to be a good sport—you never know who you are going to bump into, revisit, need as a practice partner for tournaments, the tour, etc or even in the business world.  Well today I have the pleasure of reconnecting with a coaching colleague and friend I have not gotten to chat with in years but have seen him go from successful college coach to tour coach extraordinaire.  Brad Stine. We are going to chat about junior-college-and pro tennis, parents of players, coaching at various levels, getting in an inside look at the best. And if you want to improve you should model the best, so today is a great opportunity to listen and learn.

Brad began his coaching career collegiately then working with elite players on the US Jr Davis Cup team such as Jim Courier, Pete Sampras, Michael Chang, MaliVai Washington, Todd Martin, and many others, all of whom reached top 100 ATP ranking.  In 1991, after leaving college coaching, Brad coached Jim Courier to a #1 ATP ranking, 2 French and Australian Open titles and 4 Slam finals.  He went on to coach other top players like Top 10 Andrei Medvedev, Top 5 Kevin Anderson, and numerous others and currently coaches Tommy Paul to new heights including a top 100 for the first time in his career, 3rd rd at the 2020 Australian Open with a 5 set win over Demitrov and a quarters appearance in Acapulco with a win over Zverev.

You will love this conversation, gleaning a ton from a seasoned ATP Pro coach and how it can shape how you not only train and play your game but appreciate that game more as you watch the pros battle it out.
