The Coach Steve Clark PhD Show

with Mark Kovacs, PhD on tennis nutrition

Hello everyone, welcome to The Coach Steve Clark PhD Show where the aim is to encourage, inspire and equip coaches, players and parents who in turn inspire and equip others to promote tennis, foster sportsmanship, and develop greater players and people. So thanks for joining me and I hope you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the conversation.

My guest is Dr. Mark Kovacs, who joints me for a second time, as we discuss general nutrition principles as well as pre, during, post match nutrition and hydration concepts and practical to-do’s. Mark is a performance physiologist, researcher, professor, author, speaker and coach with an extensive background training and researching elite athletes. He is known as the go to expert for elite and professional athletes, corporate executives and performance artists looking for science based programming to optimize human performance. He holds a PhD in exercise physiology, and speaks from first hand experience as an All American at Auburn University and NCAA doubles champion.  As the CEO of the Kovacs Institute, he oversees the direction, testing protocols and athlete monitoring programs along with his staff. He also consults with various tennis organizations such as the USTA, ITA, ITPA, etc.

Below I supply  helpful documents as a practical help for your tennis nutrition. When you listen to the podcast much of that will be summarized on these documents.

You can also email me with questions or comments at steve@coachsteveclarkphd.com

The introduction music is “Let it Rip” by Mike and Bob Bryan band and the narrator is Wayne Bryan. Thanks for your continued support.

Special thanks to our sponsor Arrow Concrete and Asphalt Specialties, Inc.

As I mentioned on the show here are documents that you might find helpful.

SUMMARY SHEETS: Below are two summary sheets I use.  One is a nutrition hydration summary of the podcast and generally accepted information. The other is a food choice rating document I have people (even my own kids) circle foods they like in the various categories so they know in each category what they like and can plan to have in their “Go Bag” so there is less guess work. For parents of younger players that is convenient as well.
