Coach Steve Clark PhD Show with Guest Wayne Bryan

Welcome to The Coach Steve Clark PhD Show.  Thanks for joining me and I hope you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the conversation. Please see my Podcast page for more information.

This particular podcast was my first podcast and my first Guest was Wayne Bryan, my good friend and world class tennis coach, motivator, author, musician, and the list goes on.  It was live on air back then but feel free to email me with any questions or comments. I know you will enjoy this podcast and you can also get Waynes’ book (the topic of discussion on this podcast) from my resources section as well.

Wayne is an accomplished Emcee at major events around the world and is sought after by just any tennis organization to speak and motivate.  He is a world class coach and teaching professionalthe father and coach of Mike and Bob Bryan (the greatest doubles duo of all time, holding every imaginable record).  Wayne was also a 3-time WTT (World Team Tennis) coach of the year, coaching two teams to the title. He is a Hall of Fame inductee in numerous venues, former Manager Extraordinaire of what was then the Cabrillo Racket Club for 25 years, and highly involved in the Bryan Brothers Foundation and its donations to over $600K.  But he is equally proud of being a grandfather and accomplished musician.  The music for my podcast introduction is from Mike and Bob Bryan’s album and Wayne does the introduction.

The list of his accolades is long but it isn’t just those those things that make him special. Rather it because he is so passionate and caring that he attracts kids, parents, coaches, and all tennis lovers to things he is passionate about.  His accomplishments just come as a natural result of who he is –passionate and driven in caring about the game, but above, caring about people.

Regarding his book, Raising your child to be a champion in athletics, arts and academics, I have read it several times and wanted to give Wayne an opportunity to summarize some key points.  I also have some questions from the book and practical applications or clarifications.

Here are what some notable sports personalities have said about the book.

“It is a small gem, this book.  Wise, warm and witty, and full of valuable insights into good coaching and good parenting.  This book goes a long way to explain why the Bryan brothers are such fine tennis players and such fine people.  As a parent and a coach, I applaud him.”   —Mary Carillo, TV commentator and sports journalist.

“Raising Your Child to be a Champion personifies Wayne Bryan’s enthusiasm, energy and zest for life. It presents simple, concise, short and inviting chapters full of relevant and fascinating anecdotes! The Formula emphasizes FUN, positive reinforcement, realistic goal setting examples and simple rewards for accomplishment. This book is tremendously uplifting – it simply ‘feels good!’ The recipe offered in The Formula really works. This must be one of the best and most useful books on ‘parenting’ ever written“   —Hall of Fame Dick Gould (Former Head Coach, Stanford University).

“Since “Parenting” is the most important profession for the future welfare of all mankind, I urge all to readThe Formula, Raising Your Child to be a Champion”   —John Wooden, Legendary Basketball Coach, UCLA.

Thanks for listening in. I hope enjoy listening in and are as encouraged by as I am even though I have known him for many years. I call him the Pied Piper of tennis.

Let ‘er Rip

Steve
