Wilson is #1 All time for a reason. The amazing people and product. I have been with Wilson for some 30 years going far back to the days with the Wilson guru Bob Shafer and the legendary Wimbledon Champions Jack Kramer. The first ever autographed racket concept was the “Jack Kramer Autograph” and Jack himself, would host my team and about 100 golfers by donating his golf club to raise endowment money for my program in honor of a good friend and my assistant coach Myron McNamara. Myron, Jack and Pancho Segura in short started what is now the ATP professional tour, but that is another story.

Wilson Sporting goods and my relationship with Wilson and the class act that Jack Kramer was, were synonymous. It was at Jack’s club, when I was having about one hundred players raise funds for our program in honor of Myron, that my wife, Kelly, got up at the podium to announce a few things. But to my surprise, and Vic Braden (rest his generous soul) was video taping the hole thing (yes video tape back then), she told the entire group that we were expecting. The place erupted. Needless to say, to me, Wilson is not just about the rackets, strings, balls, or other

product. It was and is the quality people I have known for so many years. It was the the integrity that its leaders and representatives demonstrated, the extraordinary character they embodied (Bob Shafer, Jack Kramer–his sons David, Bob, et al, the legendary and dear friend in Dodo Cheney et al). The list is endless. So it is with great pleasure that I have played with Wilson as have most of my players collegiately and privately over the years and provide you with their product.

I have always loved the Prostaff. I used every model going way back to the PWS (Perimeter Weighted System). I also preferred the heavier frames approaching 13 oz. Great frames with a ton of power.

Wilson Blade 98, 16×19 Countervail. Click here to order. I use this one (have used the Blade ever since they came out. Prior I used every Prostaff. The countervail technology is amazing. The frame feels so comfortable. 16×19 gives a little more play in the string bed, a bit more pop. The tighter the string pattern the more control but harder on the arm if strung at the same tension.

Wilson and Luxilon Strings

Luxilon string:

The number one used string on the ATP tour. If you are not a string breaker, 17gauge is the way to go with this great string. A bit softer and more control at smaller gauges. They do recommend stringing about 5-10% looser since most of the strings are stiffer.

Wilson Revolve Spin 17 String Wilson Revolve Spin. Many college teams use this and this, along with Luxilon, is the main string I use. It has great life and technologically has the best “snap back” on the market. Spin is created by snap back (you do not want your strings staying apart like you use to have to move them back). Wilson NXT control. A huge seller and very close to gut feel that you can use fully in the bed of the frame or blend with a Luxilon poly or Wilson Revolve Spin for longer life. Great for club players and a lot of 3.5-4.0 women use this. Click here to order

Wilson natural gut. You can’t get more feel, power, and comfort than GUT. But it the most expensive of any string. Club players who do not break strings can get a longer use out of it. Click here to order
